Care | Try at home | Free shipping: Vacuum regularly without the beater bar and avoid prolonged direct sunlight to keep its colors vibrant; spot clean with care. When it needs washing, have it cleaned by a professional rug cleaner, never with a carpet shampooer. One of a kind. Take it home on approval from our Evanston or Chicago showroom, or order it with free insured U.S. shipping and 30-day returns.

Named after Herat

Where it comes from. The Herati pattern is named after Herat, the old city in western Afghanistan where it is believed to have begun centuries ago. It spread from there across Persia and became one of the most woven designs in the world.

What to look for. A small diamond of rosettes framed by curving leaves, repeated across the field. Weavers call it mahi, “fish”, because the leaves look like fish swimming around a pond.

Your rug. This 8x11 Herati rug was woven by hand decades ago and has already lived a life. No other rug in the world is exactly like it.

How to style it

Works beautifully with: warm white or greige walls, walnut and medium oak floors, gray, navy or cognac leather sofas, brass and dark wood.

Go easy on: orange-toned floors and red-orange furniture, which compete with the field color.

About this rug, answered

Is this the only one?

Most of our handmade rugs are one of a kind. If the listing says one in stock, this is the only one, and it is on our floor in Chicago or Evanston until it sells.

Can I see it before I buy?

Yes. Visit either showroom, take it home on approval, or ask us for a FaceTime or video walk-around so you see the colors in daylight before we ship.

Is this rug guaranteed authentic?

Yes. Like every handmade rug we sell, it carries a lifetime guarantee of authenticity and quality. It is what this listing says it is: hand-knotted or handwoven, with the origin, age and materials described. If it ever proves otherwise, bring it back for a full refund.

Will it fit my room?

The exact size is listed above. For a living room, leave about 18 inches of floor around the rug and keep the front legs of the sofa on it. Chat or text us your room measurements and we will tell you honestly if it fits.

Does it come with a rug pad?

Every rug page has a box to add a Durahold Plus pad custom cut to the rug, so the two can arrive together.

How does shipping and returning work?

Free insured U.S. shipping on every rug in the continental U.S. Online orders can be returned within 30 days in the condition received; a restocking fee of up to 15% may apply to change-of-mind returns. Pack the rug the way it arrived, in its original packaging or in plastic.

Is the size exact?

It measures 6'9" x 10'4" (206 x 315 cm), not including the fringe. Handmade rugs can vary slightly from end to end.

How do I clean it?

Vacuum without the beater bar and blot spills right away. A hand-knotted rug should always be cleaned professionally, never in the home. Rugistan® hand-washes and repairs rugs at both showrooms.
