Persian Nain square rug, 6x6 (6'2" x 6'7"), 9La hand-knotted wool — a round navy medallion of fine floral scrolls and a light blue rosette, inside ivory floral borders. A near-square Nain that suits a dining table, a seating group or a bedroom, from Rugistan®.
Nain is known for its crisp, finely drawn design and the clean contrast between a dark field and a light border. A square shape is rare in hand-knotted Persian rugs, which makes it a good fit for a square dining room, a seating group or the foot of a bed. The wool has a soft sheen and a firm, even feel underfoot.
Condition: Even pile with sharp, bright colors. The fringe is uneven and slightly yellowed in places, and one edge of the ivory border shows light yellowing. Handmade rugs can be slightly crooked and vary in pile height, length and width from area to area. Each rug is photographed flat from both ends, since its color shifts depending on which way you look at it.
Care: Vacuum without a beater bar, rotate yearly, and use a premium rug pad, custom cut, to keep it flat and in place. Hand-knotted rugs must always be cleaned professionally, never in the home.

Made by hand
This rug was woven by hand on a loom, one row at a time, over about two to three months. Small variations in color and shape are the marks of the weaver’s hand.
- Wool: sheared, washed and combed, then spun into yarn, much of it by hand.
- Dye: dyed in small batches, so every rug has gentle color shifts (abrash).
- Weaving: knotted by hand from a pattern or from memory, row after row.
- Finishing: beaten, sheared, singed, washed, stretched and dried by hand.
Rugistan® was founded in 2021 by Shams Frough. He served five years alongside U.S. forces as an interpreter in his native Afghanistan, then made Chicago home, where he put himself through college and is still studying today.
Shams and his wife run Rugistan® together, with showrooms in Evanston and Chicago. He still travels to the weaving regions himself and buys most of our rugs in person, from the families and workshops who make them. That's how we keep our prices fair. We also clean and repair handmade rugs.
