Prices are marked on every rug. Find the same handmade rug for less at a legitimate seller and we match it.
Every handmade rug we sell is guaranteed for life to be authentic and of the quality described: hand-knotted or handwoven, with the origin, age and materials in its listing. If it ever proves otherwise, bring it back for a full refund.
Where it began. Gabbeh rugs were first woven by nomadic Qashqai and Luri families in southwest Iran for use in their own tents: thick, soft and quick to make.
What to look for. A long, plush pile, open fields of color and a few simple figures, animals or trees. Their modern look fits easily in contemporary rooms.
Your rug. This 5x7 Gabbeh rug was woven by hand, one knot at a time. No other rug in the world is exactly like it.
This rug was woven on a loom inside a family’s own home, most often by women, one knot at a time. A rug this size takes two to three months to weave, which means steady income for a family in a country where paying work is scarce. We buy directly from weaving families and workshops we know, with no factories and no middlemen.
Rugistan® was founded in 2021 by Shams Frough. He served five years alongside U.S. forces as an interpreter in his native Afghanistan, then made Chicago home, where he put himself through college and is still studying today.
Shams and his wife run Rugistan® together, with showrooms in Evanston and Chicago. He still travels to the weaving regions himself and buys most of our rugs in person, from the families and workshops who make them. That's how we keep our prices fair. We also clean and repair handmade rugs.
What people mention most: honest prices, no pressure, and taking rugs home on approval before buying.
We reply within the hour, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central.

Most of our handmade rugs are one of a kind. If the listing says one in stock, this is the only one, and it is on our floor in Chicago or Evanston until it sells.
Yes. Visit either showroom, take it home on approval, or ask us for a FaceTime or video walk-around so you see the colors in daylight before we ship.
Yes. Like every handmade rug we sell, it carries a lifetime guarantee of authenticity and quality. It is what this listing says it is: hand-knotted or handwoven, with the origin, age and materials described. If it ever proves otherwise, bring it back for a full refund.
The exact size is listed above. For a living room, leave about 18 inches of floor around the rug and keep the front legs of the sofa on it. Chat or text us your room measurements and we will tell you honestly if it fits.
Every rug page has a box to add a Durahold Plus pad custom cut to the rug, so the two can arrive together. Rugs over $1,000 include that pad free: keep it in your cart and tell us in chat or in the order note, and we take the pad off the total before the order ships.
Free insured U.S. shipping on every rug in the continental U.S. Online orders can be returned within 30 days in the condition received; a restocking fee of up to 15% may apply to change-of-mind returns. Pack the rug the way it arrived, in its original packaging or in plastic.
It measures 4'9" x 6'8" (145 x 204 cm), not including the fringe. Handmade rugs can vary slightly from end to end.
Vacuum without the beater bar and blot spills right away. A hand-knotted rug should always be cleaned professionally, never in the home. Rugistan® hand-washes and repairs rugs at both showrooms.
Chat or text us the Rug ID and we will have it rolled out when you arrive. Take it home on approval.
